 BUBBLE CORAL CARE

Plerogyra sinuosa, sometimes called pearl or bubble coral, is a delicate looking but hardy variety of LPS with attractive globe shaped tentacles. You will occasionally find other Plerogyra or Physogyra species sold as Bubble Corals, but their care requirements remain the same. Please see below for additional care tips for Bubble Corals.

 LOCATION

Bubble Corals are found in the islands of the Indo-Pacific including Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Our Bubble Corals typically come from Australia unless otherwise noted.

 LIGHTING

Bubble Corals do well in medium to moderate light. We recommend starting with medium light for Bubble Corals because it is safer to err on the side of too little light than too much light. Providing too much light will result in the Bubble Coral rapidly losing coloration and staying partially closed.

Low Light

Low light translates to about 30-50 PAR

Medium Light

Medium Light is between 50-150 PAR

High Light

High Light is anything over 150 PAR

Lighting is a loaded topic, so for a more in-depth discussion of lighting.

 WATER FLOW

We recommend keeping the coral in an area of the tank with low to medium flow. High flow is not recommended and may cause the flesh to tear away from the skeleton.

 FEEDING

Like many of our other LPS, we strongly believe that feeding is a major key to the long term success of keeping Bubble Corals. They can be fed a mix of meaty foods such as pieces of mysis shrimp or small pellet food.

 PROPAGATION

In terms of propagation, Bubble Corals do not make good candidates for farming. Propagation is possible, but care needs to be taken that areas cut are sanitized and do not become infected.
